#35 - Morris Cooper S - 1962

#35 is a 1962 Morris Cooper S – used as a street car in Texas until brought to Atlanta and built into a race car by Greg Wold in 1990

Originally white with an orange stripe the design was changed, a roll cage fabricated, subframes re-built, Coleman brake/clutch pedal box with dual brake cylinder installed.

The built was quick, started on New Year’s day in 1990 and the car was on track in March 1990 at Road Atlanta for the Walter Mitty Challenge.

The “Dirty Bird Racing” sticker’s history goes back to the first engine built for #35, by Scotty Beckett who raced in the Midwest during the early days of SCCA.

One of his cars, a Maserati Birdcage, the unreliable engine replaced with a Ford V8 was called “a dirty bird”. Scotty allowed Greg to use the logo on #35

After the COVID break in 2022 #35 founds it's way to the west coast of the United States, initially prepared by Don Racine and since then under care and maintenance of RTFM, where fuel system, electrics, brakes and plumbing, suspension, safety equipment got modernized.

#35 still retains the lime infused white/black paint scheme, which originally got painted in 1990 and since then "kept alive". Apparently it was supposed to be "old english white and black", but I guess Greg's painter didn't get the memo? Now we keep getting a thumbs-up from the grid-workers everytime the sun starts to set and the lime gets really visible. I guess it reminds them of the coming end of day party with margaritas?? Who knows...
